Hello Everyone!!

The semester is drawing to a close.  Everyone should have their Final Exam taken by today.  If you had an off campus proctor, your Final Exam should be postmarked by Monday, December 11.  I will grade these exams as I get them and will post the grades by Tuesday, December 19, 2006.  I hope all of you have had a good semester.

Week Seven Announcements:

Monday, October 23, 2006

This week should find everyone taking the Midterm Exam.

The Midterm Exam is quite thorough and will take the average student at least two hours to complete.  Be sure to allow yourself enough time to do the exam whether you are taking the exam in the Testing Lab at JCC or in another approved proctored environment.  Once you begin the exam, you may not stop and come back to it later.  It must be completed at one sitting.

You may bring notes that have formulas, definitions, and how to processes (absolutely no sample problems) to the exam with you.  You may also bring your graphing calculator.

Be sure to do the exam in pencil, not ink pen.

It is so very important that you show all of your work.  I will give partial credit for work that is done partially correct, however, I give no credit to answers only.

I have posted a Midterm Exam Review and a Final Exam Review to the Math 140-Distance Learning Homepage.  The Midterm Exam Review will be a good indicator as to the type of problems found on the exam and the level of difficulty.

Good luck to all of you as you take this exam this week.

There are no knew announcements at this time.

Week Three Announcements:

Monday, September 25, 2006

Hello to all.  Everyone should have the MyMathLab program up and running by now.  If you are experiencing difficulties with the program, please contact me and I can get you on the right track.  Since this format may be new to several of us, I am going to change the due date for the Chapter R Homework and Chapter R Quizzes to also be due on October 2, 2006 along with the Chapter 1 materials.  Hopefully, this will enable everyone to get caught up to speed.

The main objectives of this week are as follows:

1.    If you are not caught up on all of the homework, you need to be really busy this week and get most

of the homework completed for chapters R and 1.

If you look at the Weekly Class Calendar  , week three should see everyone beginning the material

      from Chapter 2.

2.    Begin the process of learning the concepts of Chapter 2, so you will be able to begin the homework

assignments in MyMathLab for Chapter 2.  Be sure to utilize all of your resources for learning

the material and concepts in this chapter.  I have been told by some of the students already that

the Video Tutor CDs are really helpful.  Also, remember that you have me as a resource also.

Please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email with questions you might have on the

concepts.  Also, feel free to stop by my office on campus during my office hours for individual

        help as well.

3.    Several of us have not completed the Discussion 1 - Self Introduction assignment.

This assignment involves the use of the Educator site.

Please look at the Class Calendar for Assignments and Due Dates for instructions on how to

complete this assignment.  It was due by Tuesday, September 19, 2006.  I will give those who

have not completed this assignment until Monday, October 2, 2006.

If the Discussion assignment is not completed by then, unfortunately I will have to assign a

grade of 0 for that assignment.

4.    Please be sure that you have your Proctor Selection Form filled out, in the mail, and postmarked

by Monday, September 25, 2006.  This lets me know where you will be taking your two proctored

exams, the midterm and the final.

Note:  MyMathLab has some wonderful features.  Be sure to check out the STUDY PLAN button, the

Multimedia Library button, and the Chapter Contents button.

Also remember, if you decided to do your homework, quizzes, or unit exams at a computer that

you did not use to initially set up MyMathLab, you will need to go to the Installation Wizard

button to install all of the plug-ins and players needed to run the software that lets you do the

             homework, quizzes, and exams.

Good luck to everyone this week!!  I will post more announcements throughout the week if and when more issues arise.  Again I stress, let me know immediately when you encounter any kind of problem, whether it is software or concept related.  The sooner you get help, the better it will be.  Enjoy!!

Continue working on the Objectives for Week 1.

1.       Look through this website, checking on what is posted under each of the links on the MTH 140 Online home page.  If you find any links that seem to not be working correctly, please let me know as soon as possible via email.

2.    Register for MyMathLab.  All of our graded homework will be completed in this environment.

Refer to the information found in Getting Started  and MyMathLab Information .

Each student will be doing homework and taking unit exams in the MyMathLab environment.

You may also do non-graded practice problems and sample tests using MyMathLab.

3.  Submit Discussion One.  Discussion One asks you to write a brief introduction of yourself

to the  rest of the class and post it in Educator.  Since most of us will never meet, this

allows us to get to know one another a little bit, and also allows you to practice posting a

document in an Educator discussion.  To get complete instructions, go to the Educator

screen, click on “Discussion”, then “Groups”, then “Discussion 1”.

4.  Complete Week 1 homework , Chapter R. Remember that all graded homework assignments are

completed using MyMathLab.  Refer to Math 140 Semester Homework and

final exams proctored.  Remember that this has to be done by the due date on the
