Technology Requirements

Jet Net:

Jet Net is the system we use to support online courses.  You must login using your user ID (first seven letters of your last name followed by the first seven letters of your first name and your middle initial).  Your password is your Social Security number, no spaces or dashes (it is recommended that you change this and record your new password so you do not forget).  You will see a screen with your classes.  MTH140 is Math 140 Precalculus Online.  The Jet Net course site holds some of the class material for Math 140 Precalculus Online. I will be using my personal website for most of the class material for this course. Your first assignment is to simply become familiar with the Jet Net environment and begin your reading  and assignments as outlined in the syllabus.  All questions and technical problems related to Jet Net can be solved by visiting the Distance Learning web site (www.jccmi.edu/Distance Learning/ ) or calling the campus office (796-8604).  Be sure to monitor the “Announcements” on a regular basis.

Electronic Mail:

In order to take this course, you are responsible for providing me, the instructor, with a working email account.  It is through email that most of our conversations will take place.

This course requires that you use your JCC Student Email Account.  I will send emails to you via your JCC Student Email Account and I will respond to emails from you that were sent from your JCC Student Email Account.

By using your JCC Student Email Accounts and my JCC Faculty Email Account, we should encounter fewer problems with sending and receiving emails.

Due to security screening measures taken by the college, often emails from invalidated sources are not accepted.  If they are accepted, when I sometimes try to send an email to an outside address, the system won’t allow it to be sent.  Also, when network issues arise, emails from outside addresses are often lost.  I have also tried in the past to send emails to students using a different email address source and it could not be delivered because the students email box was full.

So, to bypass all of these issues, I only send email to your JCC Student Email Account and will only respond to emails from your JCC Student Email Account.

To get in touch with me through email, use the following email address:  baarsonmonag@jccmi.edu

Note about e-mail

You can e-mail me a question any time.

I  try to return e-mail within 48 hours, with the exception of weekends; if you e-mail after 3 pm on a Friday, you may not hear back from me until the following Monday.

If you have a personal question, e-mail me directly at   baarsonmonag@jccmi.edu

When you e-mail, put MTH140 Online in the subject line followed by your name.

So, the e-mail will come to me as:   Subject: MTH140 Online Your Name.

If you need an immediate answer put:    Subject: MTH140 Online Your Name URGENT
