  • Incompletes will be given only in accordance with JCC policy. (Excerpt from JCC policy; contact Student Services for a copy of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.)  A student may request an incomplete from the instructor. The incomplete will be granted only if the student can provide documentation that his or her work up to that point is sufficient in quality, but lacking in quantity, due to circumstances beyond the student’s control. Furthermore, a written plan for making up the missing work within one semester must be completed by the student.  Incompletes are not given to keep a student from failing.

  • Although you may be dropped when Participation Grades are given, it is your responsibility to withdraw from the course.  Check the Academic Calendar on JCC’s website for the withdrawal date.

  • Participation grades are given after the 1st - 2nd week of class, the 4th -5th and 8th week of class.  If you are not attending class and/or not completing required work, then you earn a “Q” grade and are dropped from the course.

  • About extra credit….“The mathematics department strongly recommends that extra credit not be offered in mathematics courses.  In order to foster a collegiate environment, maintain the integrity of student grades, and provide for proper student placement and advancement through sequenced courses, the department believes this to be in the best interests of both students and faculty. Extra credit is understood to include bonus points on a test or assignment, separate extra credit assignments, and other forms of providing opportunities for more than 100% credit.”

About  Homework, Attendance and Participation (including in-class quizzes)

  • One or more quizzes may be given class periods. They will contain material that has been previously covered or that has been covered during that class period.  Quizzes cannot be made up for any reason.
  • Attendance may be taken in lieu of a quiz.
  • Homework consists of three parts.
    • Part one consists of completion of homework problems from MyMathLab.  These problems are already online and must be completed by the start of class the day after they are assigned.
    • Part two consists of completion of assigned homework problems from the text.  They will be assigned the class prior to when the problems are due.  Problems are due at the beginning of the class period.  Homework is to be done sequentially with problems and answers clearly marked and supporting documentation clearly and orderly written.
    • Part three consists of reading the sections of the textbook that will be covered prior to coming to class.

 3Late Work Policy

  • Exams are to be taken during class on the day announced.  If you must miss a test or the final exam, contact me before the test is given in class to make arrangements for a make-up.  Once a test is returned, no make-up test will be given and you will be earn a 0.0 for the test

  • Homework is due at the beginning of the class period and will not be accepted past the first 5 minutes of the class period.

  • Attendance and/or in-class quizzes will be taken at/given at various times during the class period.  If you are not in attendance at the time, you will earn 0 points for that hour of class.
