Welcome
to Biology
Fall 2008
J. F. Powell; Ph.D.
My goal is to help guide you through the realm of biology. Much of this course focuses on the cell, the smallest unit of life, and how cells function. Although you may wonder how a cell functions can impact your life, I hope to show you how these topics relate to you and your life. This course is vastly improved by the involvement of students in class, including asking questions and contributing information relevant to current topics. Hopefully you will take some of this course with you for the rest of your life.
The other main focus of this course is to learn how to learn. Being an adaptable life-long learner has been identified as being one of the main keys to professional success. With this in mind, this course is designed to help you develop learning skills. Your main reference for this will be your textbook. You will also draw on group and active learning skills.
