Is This
Course for You?
Sometimes a manager’s job can seem overwhelming, whether you are a
first-time supervisor or a veteran manager. Managers need to set goals,
communicate well, hire and fire, train and motivate people, appraise
performance, and help each employee feel part of the team while treating
everyone the same but different.
It’s no wonder
they have so many questions:
- "How do I
challenge people who have lost their motivation?"
- "What do I do
to increase productivity?"
- "How do I
address questions about impending layoffs—when I know they’re true?
- "How do I deal
with my own difficult boss?"
In this course you will gain skills that will allow you to:
-
Know the
difference between managing and leading
-
Win commitment and
cooperation from staff
-
Give positive and constructive feedback to keep employees on track
-
Develop a flexible
management approach
- Gain
acceptance as “the boss”—regardless of your age or experience

What Students Tell Their Friends After
They Have Taken This Course:
-
Flexibility, communication,
and the schedule. Communication is the most important part of
online courses and the communication in this course has been
excellent. The flexibility allows you to be independent and
finish at your own pace.
-
Though we have chosen to not be in a classroom
environment, the instructor has done a great job of making it feel
like a classroom, with jokes and an upbeat, fun atmosphere.
-
You have to turn in
assignments on time and this is one teacher that doesn’t take any
excuses for late work, no matter what. Read everything that
is posted if you want to be successful.
-
This is a great course to take for any job
and if you want to improve yourself. You don’t even have to
be a business major.
Even though
Discussion Board assignments look easy, you better be prepared to write and think at the
college level and not like you were still in high school. Short
general answers don’t cut it in here. You have to show your
thinking and that you ARE thinking from a management perspective.
I like that I can contact the instructor easily and that I
can check my grade anytime. The
instructor is pretty open as to what we are doing right and wrong. She
has the right mix between friend and boss when she needs to.
I don’t know if this is the class for me. I
think I need to hear the lectures and have the professor tell me
what’s important. I don’t like to read that much and I’m always
misinterpreting the quiz questions.
I like that there are different interpretations
of ideas, problems, and situations, and all of the different ways in
which bosses and employees handle them. It gives me insight to
previous situations that I have been in and the way my company and
supervisors do things the way they do.
This is not one of those textbooks that puts you
to sleep and I would know because I spend 6-9 hours a week just
reading the book. It is very clear, interesting and easy to
understand. I like the many stories and case applications about the
real world.
If you blow off the readings, it shows up on your quizzes. Read
every chapter and don’t just skim them.
